Citizen of Year banquet is tonight

The Grove Hill Civitan Club will host the annual Citizen of the Year banquet honoring Mary English Thursday, (tonight), Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door until capacity is reached.

HIV group meets

The Southwest Alabama HIV Prevention Network Group will have its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3 in the community room of the Monroe County Health Department, 416 Agriculture Drive in Monroeville, next to the Alabama Southern Community Campus. This is a change from the regular meeting date. Persons interested in planning, promoting and implementing HIV prevention activities are encouraged to attend. Syrup making time at Rikard's Mill

A restored 19th century cane mill will be in operation at Rikard's Mill, Saturday, Nov. 4 at 9 a.m. between Monroeville and Camden on Highway 265, five miles north of Beatrice. There will be a working grist mill, blacksmith shop and covered bridge giftshop. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors. "A Christmas Memory" read set

Tom Key, Atlanta actor and playwright will read Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory," Friday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in Monroeville, Capote's hometown. This one-hour performance will be held in the courtroom of the Old Courthouse on the historic downtown square. Tickets are $15 for each seat. Seating is limited. Thanksgiving dinners served in Coffeeville

It's that time of year again. Thanksgiving is almost here and Mrs. Alice Taylor and a volunteer gang are again remembering the elderly, sick, shut-ins, homeless and hungry of the Coffeeville community and surrounding areas. On Saturday, Nov. 11 a Thanksgiving dinner will be served. Mrs. Taylor and those working with her will be serving food from the old Tombigbee Auto Parts building. Plates may be picked up or delivered. Serving time will begin between 9:30 and 10 a.m. The menu will be turkey and dressing with giblet gravy and cranberry sauce, green beans, potato salad, dinner rolls, cake and beverage.

CCHS class of 1987 cruise to Mexico

The Clarke County Class of 1987 will be celebrating its 20th year class reunion with a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico aboard the Fun Ship Fantasy on Nov. 8-12, 2007 . Anyone interested in going on this cruise please contact Yolanda Early Williams, 251-275-2315 or Marilyn Brown Kelly, 662-741-2751
