Homeland Security gives $120,608 to Jackson VFD

The Jackson Volunteer Fire Department has received a $120,608 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Fire Administration. The money is through the USFA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and will be used for the purpose of operations and firefighter safety.

Congressman Jo Bonner said, "The department and the residents of Jackson are to be strongly commended for their efforts to enhance the service provided by the department and, through that process, provide a grater degree of safety and fire prevention for their area."

U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions said, "This is good news...Firefighters are our first responders to emergencies and their equipment must be the best."

The program provides one year grants to local fire departments to assist them in improving the effectiveness of their operations. The funding can be used for operations and firefighter safety programs, which includes training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness and modifications to fire stations and facilities.
