ATRC seeking senior volunteers to help counsel families' needs

The Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging (ATRC AAA), in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) and the University of West Alabama (UWA), is seeking senior volunteers for participation in its Winter 2007 Leadership Institute Program from Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Dallas, Marengo, Monroe, Perry, Sumter, Washington, and Wilcox counties. This program will provide training and instruction for senior volunteers on Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias, family caregiving, and advocacy.

Senior Volunteers will be trained at the UWA campus in Livingston. Meals will be provided by the UWA and the AAA will reimburse for travel to and from the UWA. After graduation from the training program (one day each week for eight weeks), graduates will carry out an internship of one year in activities which should include advocacy for victims of Alzheimer's disease and dementias, development of caring teams, and other activities related to advocacy for senior citizens.

If you are interested in participating in this Leadership Institute Program or if you have questions about the program, please call Thelma McCall at 1.334.682.5206 or 1.888.617.0500.
