Domestic fuss lands county coroner in jail Clarke County Coroner Jonas Nicholson Thomas and Charles Thomas Browder were both arrested Sunday in Thomasville following an altercation between Thomas and his girlfriend Cherie Browder. According to those involved Thomas and Miss Browder had argued and she went to his house Sunday, where the alleged altercation took place. Apparently Thomas left to see if Miss Browder's mother would come get her when he was pulled over by the woman's father, Charles Thomas Browder. A Thomasville police officer also pulled over and witnessed Browder hit Thomas. Browder was arrested by the officer for assault, third degree. Miss Browder showed officers what Chief Billy Hicks said he believed to be minor injuries, "but it was enough that I felt it constituted domestic violence, so Thomas was also arrested." Thomas was charged with domestic violence, third degree. Thomas, who owns LifeLine ambulance service, was appointed as coroner by Gov. Bob Riley in February, following Keith Knight's mid-term resignation from the position. Kevin Brusnon, who owns Jackson Emergency Transport Services (JETS), opposed him in Tuesday's election and won the office by a wide margin. Local political observers are debating what impact, if any, the arrest had on the elections. Most agree that too few voters knew about it for it to have been a factor in the contest.
