Gravel truck flips and spills load on Highway 69 in Stave Creek community
The driver of a gravel truck lost control of his vehicle, Saturday, causing it to hit a culvert and flip, tearing down a fence and spraying a residence with part of his load. According to Jackson Police Chief Charles Burge, John Gregor, 30, of Buckatuna, Miss. was traveling north on Highway 69, around 10:45 a.m., approximately 1-1/2 miles from the Jackson city limits, in the Stave Creek community,, when the 2000 Mack truck he was driving left the road on the east side. The driver over corrected, causing the truck to cross the road and overturn on the west side, sliding on it's side for 180 degrees. Gravel from the trailer spilled out onto the roadway and sprayed a house owned by Louise Overstreet, causing damage to several windows and a screen door. The truck also took down approximately 40 feet of chain link fence in front of the home. Gregor was transported from the scene by JETS ambulance to Jackson Medical Center for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. No one was inside the residence at the time of the crash. The truck Gregor was driving was owned by T.K. Stanley, Inc. of Waynesboro, Miss. Both lanes of traffic were blocked until the roadway could be cleared. Trucks 3, 4 and 6 from the Jackson Fire Department and Assistant Chief Bobby Brooks responded to the scene to assist with traffic control and cleanup. Pete Overstreet used a backhoe to assist the fire department in removing gravel from the road and get traffic flowing again. The Jackson Police Department's Sgt. Josh Garrett was the investigating officer at the scene.
