Letter To The Editor Cheap speedbreakers not answer to problems at dangerous intersection

Dear Editor,

Would someone please tell me who is responsible for those blankety-blank speed-breakers on Cobb Street at the Highway 43 intersection? I would also like to know why they were put there? Another question that comes to mind: Were they purchased on sale at the highway department consignment shop?

I realize that the intersection in question is a dangerous one. I know some of the people who have been killed and hurt in accidents that occurred there. I cross the intersection quite frequently, at least twice a day. I just do not understand how speed-breakers will help the situation. People are not wrecking because they fail to stop at the intersection. Most of the wrecks seem to have been caused by folks misjudging the distance and speed of oncoming north and south traffic. I don't see how speed-breakers can remedy that problem.

About those speed-breakers - they seem to be a little on the cheap side. Folks better slow down before they hit one of those suckers! They are rough! Furthermore, there are no signs warning of their existence. The first day I came upon them, I nearly lost my fillings; they jolted me so hard. And no, I was not going too fast. I just said that I went through the intersection twice a day so I was slowing for the intersection when I jolted across these yellow monstrosities.

I am pleased that someone in charge of highway safety is concerning themselves with this dangerous intersection. That is a big plus! However, I will need to be convinced that these jarring concussion-makers will help the situation. If they're really not going to help, I hope someone has the good sense to get rid of them. Until then, I'll slow down and grit my teeth over the humps! I just hope my Dodge is really Dodge tough!
