Learning pioneer ways

Pioneer Day at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill Saturday focused on long gone work skills and crafts. Above, something as simple as churning butter turned into work. At right, two Creek Indian War militiamen reenactors strike a pose. Below, sawing a log by hand with a crosscut saw wasn't easy, as many who tried it found out. In the background below is the 1800s Mathews log cabin, awaiting restoration. The day went well but a cold front blew through about mid-morning and temperatures dropped dramatically.
