Lots of write-in votes cast Nov. 7
Beaten judge candidate Chris Bailey draws 175 write-in votes

By Kathryn F. Pickard

A good many Clarke Countians voted for candidates who were not on the ballot last week, especially for the circuit judge's seat.

The unusual high number was likely sparked by Democrat circuit judge nominee Stuart DuBose's recent reprimand by the Alabama State Bar Association and questions of his eligibility to serve.

Jackson attorney Chris Bailey was the leading write-in candidate. Bailey was defeated by DuBose in a tight race for the judgeship in the June primary.

Grove Hill attorney Daryl Drinkard came in second and Mike Motes placed third, beating former District Attorney Bobby Keahey by one vote.

The following is a list of write-in votes, minus any fictional characters, which the probate office does not count. There were several of those too.
