Listed below are some of the projects the chamber has worked on during the past year: + Hosted a candidate's forum for County Commissioner Place I which represents our area on the Clarke County Commission. + Worked together with the Revitalization and Beautification Committee to assist with improving the aesthetic appearance of our business community to encourage more economic growth. + Supported and actively worked with the Grove Hill Arts Council to encourage cultural enrichment in the Grove Hill area. + Supported and endorsed the Highway 84 El Camino Corridor for four laning Highway 84 through Clarke County. + Worked with Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission on economic and tourism initiatives for the area including a recent SWOT analysis to find our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for Grove Hill and Clarke County. + Business briefings from Clarke County Emergency Management Agency, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce and more recently an informative and close up view of the purpose, mission and workings of Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. + Continued support of tourism opportunities in Grove Hill specifically working with the Clarke County Historical Museum. + Continued support and assistance with the Clarke County Development Foundation by serving on the Workforce/Education Committee and more. + Worked with Alabama Treasure Forest Association to help host their first festival in Grove Hill at Clarke Prep School. + Provided information and assistance to businesses in the Grove Hill Area about Alabama's first back to school tax exempt holiday weekend. The Chamber is currently working on a projected agenda for the coming year that will include continued support of existing organizations, continued support of tourism efforts through the Clarke County Museum and the upcoming Forestry Museum, creating a Grove Hill web site, and continued support of existing businesses and welcoming new business. The Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce wants and needs your support. Now is the time to renew your membership. Dues are $70 for businesses and organizations and $30 for individuals. In addition to the already listed items, the chamber continues to be involved in the following: + Annual Christmas Parade and promotion of holiday activities. + Annual Statewide Clean Up - PALS. + Leadership Clarke County. + Pioneer Day at Clarke County Historical Museum + American Cancer Relay for Life. + Annual Health & Safety Fair at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital + Maintaining current demographic info about Grove Hill. + Maintaining current printed info about businesses in Grove Hill + Welcome packets for visitors, new residents and new businesses + Serves on the county-wide Clarke County Citizens Against Littering Committee. + Children's Advocacy Center. + Assists with ribbon cuttings, grand openings and customer appreciation events for local businesses. + Works with the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. + Works with the Small Business Development Center at the University of Southwest Alabama. + Assists with the Grove Hill Citizen of Year. Emily Steadham currently serves as the chamber's president with Mary English as vice-president and Sharon Reynolds as treasurer. George McIntyre, Lynn Allday, Kerry Reid and Lou Boykin serve as board members. As always, the chamber welcomes any and all ideas, suggestions and comments you have.
