Coates doing well

after receiving

lung transplant

Beatrice Coates, wife of Grove Hill city policeman Woodie Coates, received a lung transplant Monday afternoon in a Birmingham hospital.

She had been waiting for quite some time while a suitable donor was located.

By mid-day Tuesday she was awake from the four hour surgery and was talking and joking with her husband. Beatrice was to be moved to an ICU room later in the day. The first 24-48 hours following transplant surgery are the most critical as the body may try and reject the transplanted organ.

Coates thanks everyone for their concerns, calls and prayers before, during and after his wife's surgery.

Anyone wishing to make a donation to help with the medical expenses can do so at an account at Merchants Bank in the Beatrice Davis Coates Fund.
