ASCC Community Chorus to present Christmas program Begin your holiday celebration with our performance by attending the Alabama Southern Community College Community Chorus' presentation of classical Christmas selections with orchestra and guest soloists, conducted by Leonard Raybon of Tulane University and by special invitation, Lauren Zoghby, soprano and accompanied by Mithril, a Celtic World Music Ensemble of Mobile. The presentation will take place Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 pm at the Nettles Auditorium on the Monroeville campus of Alabama Southern Community College. Raybon, a native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, is an active choral conductor, musical director, and vocal soloist and teacher. He received a bachelor of music in music education from William Carey College, Hattiesburg, Miss. After obtaining a Rotary Ambassadorial Fellowship, he received a master of arts in music from University of York, England. He earned his doctorate of musical arts in choral conducting from Louisiana State University, serving as a graduated student for celebrated choral conductor, Dr. Kenneth Fulton. Raybon is musical director and conductor for the prestigious Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre, supported for the past two years by the National Endowment for the Arts. Raybon has also musically directed for other New Orleans theatres, including Le Petite Theatre du Vieux Carré, Southern Repertory Theatre, and True Brew Theatre. Zoghby is a native of Fairhope and a 2001 magna cum laude graduate of the University of South Alabama. A former Miss University of South Alabama and Miss Alabama Talent Winner, Lauren was a Theodore Presser Scholar, University Presidential and Choral Scholar, and National Lebanese-American Scholar. She's a student of tenor Joseph Evans, recently earned her Masters degree from the University of Houston and is continuing her studies at the university as Doctoral candidate in vocal performance. She is a member if six national collegiate honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi. This past summer, Zoghby made her debut with Des Moines Metro Opera as Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos. She was also a 2004 apprentice artist, performing in various opera scenes, programs and a gala concert with the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra. In the summer of 2003, she was a studio artist with Chautauqua Opera, appearing in recitals and musical theatre reviews and covering the role of Musetta in La Boheme. There is no admission for the concert, so please join us for this festive holiday event.
