Traditional Christmas parades set

Community holiday celebrations will begin this weekend with a parade in Fulton and open house at many businesses throughout the county.

In addition to the traditional Christmas parades, with the jolly man in red bringing up the rear on a big fire truck, there will be decorating contests, tree lighting ceremonies and other festivities to celebrate the season.

Fulton

Fulton will have the first Christmas Parade of the season. The parade will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, beginning at 2 p.m.

Line-up will be at Spencer Chapel Church, beginning at 1 p.m.

Jackson

Jackson's Christmas Parade will be held Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at 5 p.m. with businesses staying open after the parade for holiday shopping until 8 p.m.

Line-up for the parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. Marching groups are asked to stage at the southeast corner of Kimball Avenue and Commerce Street and floats are asked to line up along Kimball Avenue.

Jackson will hold its Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Downtown Jackson Saturday Nov. 25 at 5 p.m.

The Home and Business Holiday Lighting Contest will be held Thursday Dec. 7. Judging will be done between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Register with the Chamber of Commerce by 4 p.m. Dec. 5 in order to participate.

Sweet Dreams, a story book reading, with "Christmas on the Back Porch," will be held Thursday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. at White Smith Memorial Library.

Thomasville

Thomasville's annual Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 beginning at 10 a.m. The theme for this year's parade is "A Christmas Fantasy."

Thomasville businesses will have Holiday Open House Sunday, Nov. 26 from 1 to 4 p.m.

On Dec. 7 the tree lighting for Southwest Alabama Medical Center will be held at 6 p.m. at the nursing home.

The Downtown Merchant's Stroll will be held Dec. 8 from 6 until 8 p.m., with downtown businesses staying open for extended hours. There will be a live nativity scene and music performed during the evening.

Open House at the Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission and Tourism office will be held Dec. 8.

Grove Hill

Grove Hill's annual Christmas parade will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, beginning at 4 p.m. The theme for this year's parade is "All I Want for Christmas is..."

The parade will start at Jackson Street and Cobb Street by the Clarke County Museum and then travel south down Jackson Street, ending in front of The Medicine Chest and Fourth Street.

Line-up begins at 3:15 p.m. in front of Clarke County High School. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded for the best floats.

After appearing in the parade, Santa Claus will be on the front porch of the museum to meet with children. The Grove Hill Lion's Club will be serving hot chocolate and hot apple cider at the museum.

Businesses will hold Christmas Open House Sunday Nov. 26 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Holiday specials, refreshments and door prizes will be offered at participating businesses.

The annual Christmas Tree Lighting will be held at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Thursday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.

Coffeeville

Coffeeville's annual Christmas Parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.

Participants should line up at Coffeeville High School. The route will begin at the school, proceed down River Street and then go back to the school.
