DHR hosts first October Fest

DHR workers had fun getting ready for the October Fest held Oct. 30 in Grove Hill
The Clarke County Department of Human Resources hosted its first annual October Fest Monday, Oct. 30. The October Fest took place in the DHR building. It was hosted by the ILP (Independent Living Plan established at DHR for children 16 years or older) teens. There were a variety of activities to participate in. These activities included face painting, prize walk, trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving and interactive story telling.

An interactive story of "Little Red Riding Hood" was performed by members of SAVANTS. These members included Shabra Todd as The Story Teller, Monique James as The Grandmother, Essence Johnson as "Little Red Riding Hood," and Anna Jackson as The Wolf. SAVANTS is a faith based organization, located in Jackson that works toward building self-esteem and leadership skills for girls between the ages of 12-18. If you would like more information concerning SAVANTS, please contact LaShaunda Holly at 251-246-7178 or Shabra Todd at 251-246-9988.

The Clarke County Department of Human Resources would like to thank all participating staff and donating sponsors who helped to make the October Fest an evening of fun, socializing and an outlet for the children. The DHR staff has received numerous thank you notes from parents because the evening was enjoyed by all of the children, but to the staff, it was enjoyable because of the children.

A special thanks goes out to the following: IGA, Greers Food Tiger, Lisa Dunagan, Robin Paul, Johnnie Lou Raine, and all participating staff.
