'Scale Back' at Grove Hill Hospital

Almost one-fourth of all adults in Alabama are obese, making this state's population one of the most unhealthy in the nation. Starting Jan. 1, Alabama's hospitals and the Alabama Department of Public Health are challenging overweight Alabamians to make a New Year's resolution to scale back.

"Scale Back Alabama" is an eight-week program designed to get businesses thinking about becoming healthier, said Doug Sewell, Grove Hill Hospital Administrator.

"We are participating in this campaign because we see the result of obesity every day in our patients in terms of higher blood pressure, increased diabetes, depression and many other illnesses that can be directly tied to obesity."

The program includes weight loss classes and a healthy competition among teams of three to five people who hold each other accountable for "sticking to" their diets and exercise routines.

If you are a member of a local business and would like information on how your business can participate in "Scale Back Alabama," call Cindy Greene, RN at 251-275-3191, Ext. 201 or go to www.scalebackalabama.com.
