Reid accomplished a lot as curator of Clarke Museum

Clarke County Historical Society President Chris Beverly, left, and Museum Chairman Tommy Hart pose with Kerry Reid at a reception honoring her work for the museum last week.
After seven years as curator of the Clarke County Museum, Kerry M. Reid has resigned to accept a fundraising position with the American Cancer Society.

Reid accomplished a lot during her tenure as curator—she helped bring a Smithsonian Institute traveling exhibit to the facility; built Pioneer Day, showcasing old time skills and crafts, into a major event annually; hosted school groups and took museum artifacts to schools; hosted teacher workshops for Alabama history teachers; planned and implemented numerous special exhibits for the museum; helped brainstorm the still fledging

forestry museum; helped to keep the museum and adjacent Helms House in good repair; and overall promoted the museum and the Clarke County Historical Society.

Most recently, she also helped to see that the Clarke County Historical Society’s Quarterly continued its four times a year publication cycle.

Reid was feted with a reception last Thursday. Both Chris Beverly, president of the Clarke County Historical Society, and Museum Chairman Tommy Hart said Reid and her work will be missed.

The Clarke County Museum operates as an arm of the Clarke County Historical Society.
