Weekend checkpoint nets felony drug arrests in Coffeeville

A weekend driver’s license checkpoint resulted in one man being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

Ryan Bedgood, 30, of Grand Bay, was stopped by police after refusing to stop at a driver’s license checkpoint. Bedgood was pursued by Chief Clint Harrell and stopped a short distance down the road. It was determined that Bedgood was under the influence of alcohol. There was also an open bottle of beer found in the center console.

Bedgood was arrested for DUI and illegal possession of alcohol. Chief Harrell searched Bedgood and found a small bag of cocaine in his jacket. A search of his vehicle also revealed several Loratab pills. There was no prescription bottle found in the vehicle. He was placed in the Clarke County Jail charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to obey police and illegal possession of alcohol.

In the month of October Coffeeville Police reported 29 traffic arrests, 5 DUI arrests, 12 non-traffic arrests, 1 drug arrest and 3 incidents reported.
