Be thankful during holiday season
By Jake Paul

As the holiday season begins and this semester ends, it is necessary to reflect on how great this year has been so far. With soaring test scores, major progress on our new school building and sports complex, several new classes being added to the curriculum and the ongoing hard work of teachers and students, there is not much more to ask for.

Clarke County High School celebrated American Education Week Nov. 12-18. The theme was promoting “Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.” The week highlighted the importance of bringing together educators, school staff, parents, students and the community in a unified effort to build a great public school. Teachers were treated throughout the week and were shown how much they are appreciated.

CCHS has acquired 11 new courses to its curriculum to broaden the minds of students, with one being, a core course and ten being elective classes.

Forensics, law in society, child development, family wellness, life connections, interior design, housing decisions, ethics, visual arts and two new health classes are the added classes taught by eight teachers.

Joe Jones teaches forensics, the relating to or denoting the application of scientific methods to the investigation of crime, to a class of seniors. The self-proclaimed CSI: Grove Hill investigates different crime scenarios, bone patterns, fingerprints and more.

Law in Society is another class added at CCHS that is designed to acquaint students with the basic legal principals common to business and personal activities with topics including maximizing purchase power, purchasing appropriate insurance, owning real estate, starting a business, managing employees and more. Ashlie Flowers is the instructor for this course.

Jaimi Bradford teaches a new class as well, visual arts. This small class has accomplished so much this year. With students learning about still life drawing, painting techniques and famous artists, a few members of the class have entered art in various competitions and won awards.

As this semester comes to a close Dec. 22, everyone is encouraged to continue to strive hard to make this year one of the best.
