Recounting votes
A statewide recount of Amendment 1 from the Nov. 7 general election was mandated because of the close vote. It appears that the initiative that would allow Prichard to establish a free-trade zone failed by 2,642 votes across the state, or about 0.32 percent. Clarke County recounted its votes Friday and the numbers changed some but not significantly. Yes votes totaled 2,970 and “No” votes were 2,353. Above, Sheriff Jack Day certifies one voting box’s recount. At right, Billie Fore checks totals with Diane Chapman and Sheriff-Elect Bobby Moore.
