Jury hangs again on murder against mental health worker
District attorney dismisses charge

The District Attorney’s office has decided to nol pross—or dismiss— the murder case against Zerrick Pritchett after a second trial ended in a mistrial in Clarke County Circuit Court last week.

Pritchett was being tried for the November 2001 strangling death of Ronald Corkerin. Corkerin was a patient at Thomasville Mental Health Rehabilitation Center and Pritchett worked there.

The first trial began Oct. 28, 2003 and ended Oct. 30 in a mistrial after jurors deliberated five hours.

The second trial was held last week, and once again jurors deliberated about five hours before announcing they could not come to an agreement.

Because of the hung jury, a second mistrial was declared and according to Assistant DA Stephen Winters, their office chose to nol pross the case.

A civil suit has been filed by Corkerin’s family and if any more evidence is brought forth Winters said it is possible they will re-visit the case.
