County agrees to accept subdivision street
County Engineer Sam Noble told commissioners Monday that Chester Williams is developing a subdivision on the Allen Road near the Magnolia restaurant south of Grove Hill and asked if the county would take ownership and maintenance of a street being constructed once it is completed. Williams said he is contemplating paving the street, if the county will accept it. Noble said he told Williams there are no subdivision regulations for the county but said they are being considered. Williams has said he will build the road to the county’s specifications. Commission Chairman Paul Bradford said, “I would be willing to do that [accept the street]. We need to encourage people to build subdivisions and new houses. There is a housing shortage right now.” Noble estimated the street’s length to be only about one-third of a mile. Other commissioners agreed with Bradford. County Attorney Bruce Wilson observed that in the past, “People have come after the fact and their streets wouldn’t be wide enough or didn’t meet specs.” Then it was difficult for the county to accept the streets. Wilson suggested that Noble work closely with Williams on the project and Noble said he would.
Tuesday the commissioners agreed to accept the completed street, if it meets with Noble’s satisfaction.
