Study Club hears archaeology program The Community Study Club of Grove Hill organized in 1929, held the November meeting in the home of Mrs. Pat Williams with Mrs. Jean Butts as co-hostess. Mrs. French Downey, president, called the meeting to order and introduced the guests - Mrs. Carrie Williams Bourgeois and Mrs. Claire Garrett. After refreshments Mrs. Betty Barlow, program chairman, presented Mrs. Bourgeois who is a graduate of Grove Hill Academy (Clarke Prep). She holds degrees from the University of Alabama and the University of West Florida. She is on the staff of archaeologists with Prentis Thomas and Associates in Fort Walton, Fla. Her specialty is in cultural resource management. Mrs. Bourgeois gave a detailed power point presentation of archaeology’s background in Europe and its movement to this country and to South America and Central America. Miss Julia Ann Deas, campaign chairman for Clarke County, urged members to make donations and/or pledges to the United Way of Southwest Alabama. The organization tries to meet the traditional needs of agencies in the Clarke County area. Miss Marion Bumpers thanked the club for the homemade delicacies given to the bake sale on Pioneer Day at the Clarke County Historical Museum. The bake sale volunteers collected more than $425.
Mrs. Downey reminded the club that the December meeting will be held at The Magnolia. Hostesses for the meeting will be Miss Bush Chapman, Mrs. Vivian Gilmore and Miss Bumpers.
