Opportunities for senior volunteers

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) Eldercare Locator launched its fourth annual “Home for the Holidays” campaign Monday, Dec. 4. This campaign encourages older adults to get involved with local volunteer programs this holiday season. The Eldercare Locator is a link to local Area Agencies on Aging and Native American aging programs that can

connect older adults to a variety of volunteer programs that involve people of all ages and backgrounds.

Volunteering offers a range of opportunities for older adults to share their knowledge, skills and talents while staying socially and physically active. Many older adults who believe they are missing a “purpose” in life often believe differently after helping others in their community.

Older adults and their family members can identify local agencies for volunteer opportunities by contacting the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116, www.eldercare.gov, or the Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission Area Agency on Aging at 1- 888-617-0500 and ask for Thelma McCall.
