Black leaders recognized

Several Clarke County leaders were recognized for their work during the Clarke County NAACP’s Sixth Annual Freedom Award Banquet Saturday night in Fulton.
Henry Smiley of Thomasville made the recognitions.
Smiley recognized three men for their work in providing food, clothing and other assistance to Hurricane Katrina victims on the Gulf Coast last year on behalf of the NAACP. They are Rev. W. T. Lesueur, chairman of the Clarke County organization; Eddie Lee Jones and James Thompson. Many others also assisted in the work, Smiley said.
Elder/Overseer Robert R. Boykins was recognized for his efforts in the 2006 “Get Out The Vote”
Campaign. Smiley said that Boykin registered nearly 300 new voters and also assisted old and disabled voters in casting absentee ballots.
Longtime community leader A. J. Pritchett was recognized for his work. Pritchett, a former principal of Wilson Hall Hall School and Wilson Hall Elementary and Middle Schools, was the first black elected to the Grove Hill Town Council. Smiley called him “Our Cornerstone.”
Chief Deputy Donnie Arnold was saluted for his work in law enforcement for 20 years.
Dr. O. L. Hubert was recognized for his work in informing citizens on medical issues, assistance programs and other personal and community issues.
