Grove Hill projects talked
By Kathryn F. Pickard

Monday night’s Grove Hill Town Council meeting involved discussions on several development projects near the airport on Highway 84 East, or rather Grove Hill Avenue East.

Council members approved an ordinance to convey 2.73 acres of land to the county for a new Clarke County Health Department building.

Currently the department is housed in buildings on Court Street and Clark Street. The new building would house all the offices in those two buildings.

The land is located near Massey Tractor. It is possible ground will be broken for the project in January, according to town attorney Bruce Wilson.

Housing development

An ordinance to give Housing Developers, LLC an option on five acres, adjacent to the above mentioned parcel, north of the airport runway, was approved.

Housing Development will pay $500 for the option to run through June and if needed another $1,000 to extend the option 90 days.

Housing Development is hoping to receive funding to help with the construction of an 80 unit apartment complex.

Currently the property is zoned for industry and would have to be rezoned for such a development.

Other business

Council members approved a building permit for G-Meg LLC to construct new storage units at 247 Grove Hill Avenue East.

Assistant Fire Chief Greg Dunegan reported the new pumper/tanker truck would be delivered Thursday, Dec. 28.

Town Hall will be closed Dec. 25 and 26 for Christmas and Jan. 1 and 2 for New Year’s.
