CCHS win two of three last week in hoops action

The Clarke County High School Bulldogs ran their record to 8-2 as they won two of their last three games recently.

Last Saturday they beat Monroe County 64-50 in Grove Hill.

Ben Burroughs was en fuego (on fire) with 30 points, six rebounds and three steals to pace the Bulldogs. Deforest Taite added 13 points, five rebounds, a steal and five assists. Kenneth Kimbrough added nine points, 13 rebounds and two steals. Marlon McConnell had six points, three rebounds and two assists. Justin Burroughs had five points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist. Dewayne Owens had five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Last Friday night Clarke County beat county rival Jackson 70-60 in Grove Hill.

Taite led the way with 21 points, five rebounds and four steals. Burroughs had 11 points and five rebounds. McConnell added 10 points, four rebounds, a steal and an assist. Kimbrough had nine points and three rebounds. Owens had eight points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists. J. Burroughs had seven points, three rebounds, a steal and four assists. Ronnie Osborne added four points, six rebounds and a steal.

Last Tuesday the Bulldogs lost 54-52 to Demopolis in overtime in Demopolis.

Kimbrough paced CCHS with 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and an assist. Taite had 12 points, three rebounds, four steals and two assists. B. Burroughs had nine points, two rebounds, three steals and two assists. J. Burroughs had eight points, nine rebounds, three steals and an assist. Owens had six points, six rebounds, three steals and an assist.

The Bulldogs will take Christmas off but return to action on Thursday, Dec. 28 in their Holiday Tournament when they play Coffeeville at 7:30 p.m. In the other first round game Linden plays Choctaw County at 4:30.

Leroy and Sweet Water each have a bye in the first round. On Friday Sweet Water plays the winner of the Choctaw-Linden game at 3 p.m. Leroy plays the winner of the CCHS-Coffeeville game Friday at 6 p.m.

The championship game will be Saturday night at 6 p.m.

CCHS will also host a JV portion of the Holiday Tournament with Linden playing Choctaw County Thursday at 12 noon. The host Bulldogs play Coffeeville at 1:30 p.m. The winner’s game will be Saturday at 12 noon.
