Firemen busy with wreck and fire over Christmas holidays

Grove Hill firefighters worked an accident Christmas Eve and a fire Christmas Day.

Highway 43 accident

The Sunday accident was on Highway 43 in front of Dunn’s Exxon shortly after 6 p.m.

A southbound car driven by W. H. Sadler of Grove Hill had crossed over into the northbound lane and was struck by a Walpole, Inc. tractor-trailer rig driven by Kim Frederick Clausell of Monroeville.

The big rig crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a car driven by Vonna Renee Bender of Grove Hill.

Policeman Woodie Coats worked the wreck and the accident victims were taken to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. The extent of their injuries was not determined at presstime.

Zimco fire

A mobile home and vehicle, belonging to Earl Henry, on Zimco Road were destroyed by fire Christmas evening.

By the time firefighters arrived at the scene both were completely engulfed. Firemen were not certain exactly where the fire started.

Fire departments who responded included Winn, Antioch, Grove Hill and Helwestern. Salitpa Fire Department stood by in the McVay community in case assistance was needed.
