Horn
He was born Dec. 15, 1929 in Grove Hill, the fourth of six children to the late Dennis and Annie Horn Sr., in the Orange Hill Community. He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Grove Hill. He worked in the church as the clerk/treasurer and adult Sunday School teacher. He later moved away and joined the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Fairfield. He was educated in his early childhood at the Orange Hill School in Grove Hill. He received his secondary education from Thomasville Normal and Industrial High. After high school, esteemed with patriotism, he enlisted in the Army to defend this country during the Korean War. He realized there was power in education and graduated from Alabama State University and continued with the completion of several graduate courses. While attending, he played two years of football at the university. He retired from the Clarke County Board of Education after working for 34 years. He played an active role in his student's lives as an educator and coach. He was the winningest football coach in Wilson Hall High's history during the 1960s. He coached the Clarke County High Varsity Basketball Boys to their first sub-state playoff game. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Diane Atkins Horn, Marion; three sons, Leslie Byron (Judy), Montgomery, Kyle Mitchell (LaShun), Fairfield, Errol Monty Horn, Marion; two brothers, Robert J. Horn and Johnnie Horn Sr., both of Grove Hill; eight grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford Horn, Hollis Horn Sr. and Dennis Horn Jr. The service was Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Fairfield with Dr. Willie Wells Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham. Lee-Rollins Funeral Home of Marion directed. Active pallbearers were former students and family. Honorary pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Flower attendants were ushers and friends of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
