Sgt. Nicholas VanKeith Pugh, 27, a native of Grove Hill and resident of Montgomery, died June 10, 2007 in Tuscaloosa, as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born October 18, 1979.
He was a life long member of Pine Chapel #1 Missionary Baptist Church of Grove Hill, where he sang in the Inspirational Divine Mass Choir. He also sang in the BC Chorus. He attended the University of Alabama Birmingham. He served with the Army National Guard for seven years and served two tours of overseas duty in Kuwait and Iraq, where he coordinated the transporting of army equipment. He received numerous decorations and attained the rank of E5. He was a U.S. Army Recruiter, serving first in Tuscaloosa, then Montogomery and lastly in Birmingham. He was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, Service Fraternity.
Survivors include his parents, Ronnie and Brenda A. Pugh of Jackson; two sisters, Veronoica Pugh (Dedric) Dixon, Jackson, and Crystal N. Pugh, Tuscaloosa; two brothers, Ozzie S. Pugh, Tuscaloosa and Ronnie Pugh Jr., Huntsville; one daughter, Ieisha Nicole Merida, Frankville; maternal grandmother, Claudia Roper, Grove Hill.
Visitation will be (today) Thursday, June 14, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson. A second visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2007, from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service hour, at Berry's Chapel AME Zion Church of Winn, with Rev. Sherman Lewis, pastor and Rev. Linda F. Hollinger, eulogist and aunt of the deceased. Burial will be in the Berry's Chapel Cemetery, with Full Military Rites.
