The Clarke Prep School Gators joined the rest of the schools in the AISA as they started practice for the upcoming season last Thursday. Monday afternoon was the last day the players would not be in full pads as they prepare for the opener against Patrician in Butler on August 24. The Thomasville Pre-Majors All-Star team, which was serving as the host in the 2007 Dixie Pre-Majors World Series, was eliminated Monday, July 30 when Tennessee defeated them 8-5. Both teams were trying to fight their way out of the losers' bracket in the game. More ... There will be a work day at Hamilton Field, home of the Clarke Prep School Gator's football team, this Saturtday beginning at 8 a.m. All athletic club members are reminded to bring yard work tools as they prepare to get the field's surroundings ready for the upcoming season. The Clarke County High School Lady Bulldog's basketball team traveled to Leroy this past Saturday and played in a 6- team summer tournament featuring Leroy, McIntosh, Jackson, Samson and Citronelle. The Lady Bulldogs went 3- 2 on the day with their two losses coming at the hands of the defending Class 1A champ McIntosh and Class 2A champ Samson. More ... The Clarke Prep School Lady Gator's volleyball team started work towards their fourth straight state crown on Monday with a team camp conducted by Lindsay Atchison. The Lady Gators had camp Monday and Tuesday, with Monday being the first official day of practice for the upcoming season. More ... The Alabama Department of Conservation is planning two 2007 alligator seasons for the Mobile- Tensaw Delta. Last year, 50 tags were issued. One hundred will be distributed this year. The hunters were chosen by a computer-generated random drawing, and the lucky individuals have been notified. More ... Kevin Johnson is the new Physician Assistant Certified (PAC) at the Fulton Healthcare Clinic. He was working July 23 at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital helping with physical examinations for local athletes for the coming fall semester. More ... Boise is sponsoring a men's double elmination softball tournament Aug. 25 at the North Jackson Softball Complex. Entry fee is $125 per team plus 2 balls, 12 inch, .47 core.
