Martha Acton Liger, 80, of Georgetown, S.C., died June 9, 2007 at a Georgetown Hospice Facility after an illness.
She was born April 2, 1927 in Birmingham. She was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Minnie Webb Acton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Florence. She also belonged to the Christian Crafters Class of the church. She was a member of the Garden Club, Literary Club and was the governor of the Optimist Club of South Carolina and president of the Florence Optimist Club. She graduated from Clarke County High School in 1945. She graduated with the first graduating class of the McLeod Hospital School of Nursing and was employed as a nurse with Drs. Hicks, Allen and Morris.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann Yarborough Weeks, Flat Rock, N.C., Jean Yarborough (Tony) Powell, Georgetown, S.C.; one brother, Mikey Wiggins, Grove Hill; two sisters, Kay Sweigert, Fort Wayne, IN, Maxine McMillan, Fulton; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.
The service was June 13 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Florence, S.C. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Waters- Powell Funeral Home directed.
