Local lawmen make marijuana bust at Coffeeville checkpoint

Deputies Ron Baggett and Virgil Chapman show off the big bags of marijuana confiscated at a Coffeeville checkpoint Dec. 22 and 23.
Clarke County Sheriff's Department and Coffeeville Police Department conducted a drivers license checkpoint in the Coffeeville area Dec. 22 and 23. Nearly three pounds of marijuana was seized out of one vehicle and several small bags were seized from another.

Wytasky Leroyce Bridges, 18, and Miguel Bernard Eldridge, 31, both of Arlington were talking with Deputy Steve Carlisle and Coffeeville Police Chief Clint Harrell when the officers noticed what appeared to be a marijuana bud on Bridges' leg.

The men were asked to step out of the vehicle and when they did the officers saw an open paper bag which contained a green leafy substance, believed to be marijuana.

Possession of more than 2.2 pounds of marijuana constitutes trafficking charges and the amount seized weighed 2.6 pounds, so both men were charged with trafficking in cannabis and their bonds were set at $100,000.

Later that night Jonathan Oneal Pernell, 24, and Grace Leanne Pernell, 26, both of Jackson were stopped at the checkpoint.

Officers noticed Jonathan Pernell trying to hide something and then noticed what appeared to be marijuana spilled on the front seat and a marijuana roach in the ashtray.

After being given consent to search, four small bags, individually wrapped for sale, of marijuana were found in Grace Pernell's purse.

Both were charged with possession of marijuana, first degree.

Eriskey Crowell, 25, of Jackson was also arrested after a small amount of marijuana was found in his vehicle.
