Losing weight

"Get Lost in Jackson" turned out to be tremendously successful.

A community weight loss program started last January concluded last week and the town lost a collective 10,000 pounds. Congratulations, folks. That's amazing!

The program shows what people can do when they work collectively and with a goal in mind (in this case cash prizes and a new car).

Prizes aside those who slimmed down were all winners as they certainly are in better shape having lost the extra baggage.

Alabama is one of the most obese states in the nation, according to recent reports. The new year is a

good time to vow to lose a few extra pounds by eating less and exercising more.

Alabama's hospitals and the Alabama Department of Public Health are promoting a statewide program, "Scale Back Alabama," to encourage people to lose weight.

Grove Hill Memorial Hospital is participating and can help you get started. Call Cindy Greene, RN, at the hospital, 275-3191, Ext. 201 for details on the special weight loss classes and team competitions available.

Losing weight in '07 is a resolution most of us could and should make.
