Dispatching issues discussed at 911 meeting Several concerns expressed by emergency responders was brought up at Monday's Clarke County E-911 board meeting. Roy Waite, Clarke County EMA Director, said ambulance and fire fighting personnel had requested dispatchers begin giving out names as well as addresses because sometimes residents gave the wrong address where help was needed. "The only thing about that is we can possibly get into a privacy issue when we're giving out medical information," Waite said. Board members agreed it was best not to give out names. Another concern brought up was by ambulance drivers from other areas, who are not familiar with the county, taking longer routes than necessary to reach a patient. "I think it should be up to the driver to tell the dispatcher where they are and then ask for the best directions if they need them," Waite said, and board members agreed. Equipment update Jackson Police Department's 911 computer is in the process of being repaired. Damage was caused to the computer by a leak and the modem had to be replaced. Thomasville's dispatch center has been recently upgraded and now if needed the county's 911 calls could be routed through the dispatch there. Other business Director Becky Neugent reported that renovations for the new 911 center were coming along and expected them to be complete in late February or early March. Neugent and Cedora Wright, dispatch supervisor, will attend CAD training in February.
Since Dec. 6 Clarke County answered 590 911 calls, responded to 454 calls for service, ran 385 drivers license numbers and 288 tag numbers. They also transferred Jackson's 911 calls to their dispatch.
