GH planning commission rejects new apartments Mayor Pro Tem Levon Hicks told Grove Hill Town Council members during Thursday night's meeting that the town's planning commission would recommend not to rezone land at the airport for the construction of an apartment complex. A development company had approached the town about purchasing land adjacent to the airport for an apartment complex. In order for plans to proceed the property would have to be rezoned. The following week the planning commission met with representatives from the airport committee. Council member Pat McGraw, who attended the meeting, said the main argument against rezoning was that if Highway 84 is four-laned, then that would leave even less room between the highway and the airstrip for the apartments to be built. Concerns about children from the apartments playing near the airstrip and also the danger to residents there if a plane had an accident while landing. The planning commission will be present at the Jan. 18 town council meeting to discuss the matter further. Other business A building permit was approved for Shirley Johnson to build a house on Church Street.
Michelle Floyd's name was added to the town's checking account as the new town clerk.
