Our Opinions
Amazing deed

Just when we think we are losing all confidence in our fellowman, someone like Wesley Autrey of New York comes along to booster us.

Autrey was standing on a New York subway platform with his two young daughters when he saw a man suffer some kind of medical distress and fall onto the tracks of an oncoming train.

Without regard for his own safety, Autrey jumped on top of Cameron Hollopeter, 19, in the narrow trough of the subway tracks and pinned him down as the train passed over the men with barely inches to spare.

Autrey said he remembered thinking, "If I let him stay there by himself, he's going to be dismembered."

Both men survived.

Larry Hollopeter said, "Mr. Autrey's instinctive and unselfish act saved our son's life."

Wesley Autrey is a hero, no doubt about it.
