Ray Sheffield was first elected sheriff in 1970 and this family photograph ran in a campaign ad in The Democrat that year. From left are Randy Sheffield, Ray Sheffield, Jane Sheffield holding baby Tony, and Tammy Sheffield, now Tammy Cross. Sheffield would serve as sheriff from 1971 until 1994.
