CALENDAR Drinkard retiring Mrs. Helen Drinkard, administrative assistant, will be retiring from the Clarke County Extension System after 27 years of dedicated service. Her retirement will be celebrated by friends, family and co-workers on Thursday, (today), Jan. 18 from 2 until 4 p.m. in the assembly room in the basement of the courthouse. C.A.A.S.T. meeting set The Citizens Against Alcohol Sales in Thomasville (C.A.A.S.T.) will hold a meeting Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. This meeting is open to all concerned citizens. Washington County Cattlemen meet The Officers and Directors of the Washington County Cattlemen's Association have set Thursday, February 1 at 7 p.m. as the date and time of their annual meeting and steak banquet. The affair will take place at the Community Center in Chatom. All members and former members and their spouses or companions are invited to attend and participate. The annual event will feature a steak dinner with all the trimmings. Chuck Reynolds and his crew of cooks will perform their magic on the steaks again this year. All members are requested to bring their favorite dessert for the dessert table. After dinner, there will be door prizes galore. Book signing on Fort Mims and Redstick War Gregory Waselkov, author of "A Conquering Spirit" (Fort Mims and the Redstick War of 1813- 1814), will discuss the new book and sign copies on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church. The cost of the book is $39.95. The event is sponsored by the Clarke County Historical Society and the Grove Hill Public Library. Cattlemen meeting set The Clarke County Cattlemen's Association will hold its annual dinner meeting Saturday, Feb. 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Clarke Prep School in Grove Hill. Dr. Tony Frazier of Auburn University will be the guest speaker. Black History Program Sunflower AOH Church located on McFadden Street in Thomasville will have a Black History Program Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m. The theme will be "...they made me the keeper of the vineyards..." Song of Solomon 1:6. The guest speaker will be Bishop Herbert Nobles of the House of Prayer of Gosport. Elder S.L. Calhoun is the pastor.
