Change can bring good
By Rev. Dave W. Rhodes Grove Hill United Methodist Church

We have all made resolutions to improve or grow in certain areas of our lives. Some we have kept, most only last the month of January. Why is this? Our intentions are so good, what could be the problem? I guess I can't speak for everyone, but with the person I know best, myself, I would say my problems is that resolutions fail because I do not want to change.

The good news is that this is not a new problem. During the eighth century before Christ, the Prophet Hosea was preaching about this same problem. In Hosea 10:12, he called the people of Israel to "break up your unplowed ground (of your lives); for it is time to seek the Lord." The prophet was calling the people then and us today to be willing to change if we wanted God to work in our lives.

Good friends, use all the "new years' optimism" you have to improve your lives.

Ask the Lord to help you, but remember God will expect one thing of us if He is to do good things in our lives, Change. Although we may feel uncomfortable, God's change always brings good to us and to the people we love.

Happy New Year.
