Martin Luther King Day observances

Martin Luther King Day observances were held in Jackson and Thomasville Monday. Above, participants gather at the Johnson Shopping Center in Thomasville Monday morning for a motorcade to New Hope Baptist Church where a program was held. The event was sponsored by the Dravitan Club of Thomasville.
Monday afternoon, Genesis Inc., of Jackson, conducted its 20th annual Commemorative March and Retreat Ceremony, which began at Jackson Middle School and progressed to Jackson City Hall. The theme for Monday's program was "Forever Upward, Forever Forward." Special speaker for the event was Clarke County High School teacher and performing artist Dr. Kim Tooks. Tooks' main message was that although King's dream has been realized and achieved, the goal now is to dream big for the future generation.
