New health department coming
Ground was broken for a new 10,000 square foot Clarke County Health Department Friday. It will replace a 3,600 square foot building built in 1967 on Clark Street near the courthouse. The new building will be built on Highway 84 East on the edge of the airport and will cost $1 million to $1.5 million. The Town of Grove Hill and the Clarke County Commission were instrumental in helping to secure land and funding for the project. At right is a rendering of the facility as designed by Bargainer Davis Sims Architects Associated of Montgomery. Above, Dr. Donald E. Williamson, state health officer and other health department officials and employees, along with Grove Hill Mayor Lamar Hudson and others turn dirt at the site Friday. See a detailed floor plan inside today's Democrat.
