New, expanding industries in county
City officials say Black Belt Industries is a direct result of the Rural Supplier Conferences held in Thomasville over the past two years and a Clarke County native's desire to help the local economy by creating jobs. Thomasville Economic Developer, Debra M. Fox said, "We are pleased that the plant is yet another success story resulting from our annual supplier conferences." Black Belt Industries is a subsidiary of Reliable Delivery Solutions, a California company. Richard Pugh, a native of Toddtown in Clarke County, is the CEO. It will be the second business/ industry to locate in the new park. The new plant will cost $8 million and is expected to employ 75 to 100 people. Pugh has expressed great excitement about creating jobs in his home county. He explained in an interview last year regarding an office or industry for the county, "This wouldn't just be business, it would be pleasure, because we'd be doing business with and creating jobs for people we know."
In addition to Black Belt Industries, the Pugh Family has a non-profit foundation which funds a variety of services in the Toddtown community of Clarke County.
