'Scale Back' weight loss program kicks off Grove Hill Memorial Hospital will host the area kickoff today (Thursday) for a statewide weightloss and exercise program. "Scale Back" team members will gather at noon to release balloons as a symbol of the release of any obstacles to a healthier lifestyle and improved quality of life. The public should look for the red notes attached to the balloons. Returned notes will be placed in a drawing for a free three-month membership to HealthActions in Jackson. Alabama native and 2003 American Idol Ruben Studdard is working with the program that encourages Alabamians to lose 10 million pounds over the next eight weeks. "That's basically 10 pounds per person for every person in Alabama that is estimated to be obese," said Doug Sewell, administrator of Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Studdard, who has recently had his own success in getting healthy, has agreed to champion this effort and to encourage people statewide to form teams of three to five people and compete for a grand prize of $1,000 per person for the team in the state that has the highest percentage weight loss. Contact Cindy Greene, RN at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital at 251-275-3191 Ext. 201, for information on the program or to participate.
Scale Back Alabama is being sponsored by Alabama's hospitals, the Alabama Department of Public Health and Barber Dairies.
