Newton

Virgie L. Newton, 85, of Thomasville died Jan. 12, 2007 at Thomasville Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 15, 1921 in Clarke County. She was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. She was a former aide and nursing home sitter.

Survivors include one son, Rev. Warren (Annie Lou) Huggins, Thomasville; five brothers, Noah Phillips, Fairfield, Va., James Phillips, Ellis Phillips, both of Buena Vista, Va., Melvin Phillips, Mt. Vernon, C.L. Phillips, Raphine, Va.; one sister, Mattie Lee Pugh, Thomasville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The service was Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of O'Bryant Funeral Home in Thomasville with Rev. Warren Huggins officiating. Burial was in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson.

Active pallbearers were Paul Pugh, Perry Dailey, Roy Phillips, Rex Rush, Dan Pugh and David Phillips.
