CCHS Bulldogs avenge area loss

Ben Burroughs nailed a 3- pointer with 1.8 seconds left on the clock as the Clarke County High School Bulldogs edged Mobile Christian 65-62 to earn at least a tie for the area championship.

Deforest Taite hit a runner with about two seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 59- 59, sending it to overtime.

"The players showed great heart to fight back late like they did," Coach Kenrick Davis said. "They grew up in the game and played very hard-nosed.

"You have to give credit to Mobile Christian and their coach. He had them really prepared to play and now I have to go back to the drawing board and do some work."

Burroughs led CCHS with 15 points and four rebounds. Marlon McConnell added 14 points and seven rebounds. Justin Burroughs had 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Deforest Taite had 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and four assists. Kenneth Kimbrough scored eight points. Ronnie Osborne pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs, ranked number six in Class 3A, beat the Tigers of Monroe Academy 61-55 last Saturday night in Monroeville.

Deforest Taite led CCHS with 21 points, six rebounds, four steals and eight assists. Colton McConnell added six points as he sank four 3-pointers. Justin Burroughs had 10 points, two rebounds, four steals and three assists. Ben Burroughs added nine points, two rebounds, a steal and an assist. Kenneth Kimbrough had eight points and four rebounds. Marlon McConnell had three rebounds, five steals and two assists.

On Friday night the Bulldogs had their way with Washington County 85-51 in Grove Hill.

Kimbrough had 15 points, four rebounds, six steals and three assists. J. Burroughs added 15 points, three rebounds and three assists. B. Burroughs had 14 points and six rebounds. C. McConnell added 11 points. Ronnie Osborne and Byron Davis each had six rebounds.

Last Tuesday the Bulldogs lost 53-52 to Mobile Christian's Leopards in a key area match in Mobile.

J. Burroughs had 15 points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists to pace CCHS. Taite had 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and four assists. B. Burroughs was limited to eight points. Kimrough had nine points and seven rebounds.
