Alabama House's youngest legislator picked for important committee assignments

      Newly elected state legislator Marc Keahey was named to two important committees during the Alabama House of Representatives' organizational session. House Speaker Seth Hammett, D-Andalusia, appointed Keahey, D-Grove Hill, to the Judiciary Committee and the Agriculture and Forestry Committee.

Evergreen Trucking to locate terminal in Jackson, employ 55

      Economic growth was the focus of the Jackson City Council during its regular meeting Tuesday, announcing another business which plans to locate to the area. The council voted to pass a resolution designating 27 acres on Highway 43 South as the first of the city's enterprise zone.

Fruit of the Loom buys Vanity Fair Intimates
      The VF Corp. has sold its Vanity Fair Intimates division, which includes operations in Monroeville and Jackson, to Fruit of the Loom, Inc. for $350 million. The sale was announced Tuesday. Jackson Plant Manager James Wilson said no changes are planned locally.

Jackson Walgreens coming
      The City of Jackson Planning Commission approved plans for a new Walgreens pharmacy on College Avenue Tuesday. Mayor Richard Long said demolition of the old shopping center and armory where the store will be built will be completed soon and constructed started.
