CPS student tells Community Study Club about attending Leadership Clarke County The Community Study Club met with Mrs. Appie O'Melia on Jan. 16. Mrs. Latona Hudson was co-hostess. Mrs. French Downey, president, called the meeting to order. Mrs. Catherine Neal, program chairman, introduced Morgan Norris, a Clarke Prep senior. Morgan, the first youth to participate in Leadership Clarke County, shared his thoughts about what the program meant to him. He now realizes that a lot is happening in the county, a progressive county. He learned and believes that diversity can be a blessing. He recommends that all people in the county become informed citizens and become involved in county affairs. Morgan thinks that Leadership Clarke County is a valuable help in promoting growth and hopes that more youth will be invited to work in the program. Members of the arts committee shared plans for bringing the Bay Area Strings Symphony to Grove Hill in the spring and plans for assisting the art teachers from Mobile Museum of Art when they visit Clarke County schools in March. Mrs. Mary English announced that a silent auction will be held in the Child Advocacy Center in March. Mrs. Shae Skipper reported that the club will assist the FAWN program from April 23 through April 26. Miss Julia Ann Deas reminded members that donations to United Way are still being accepted. Southwest Alabama has not met its goal. Mrs. Susan Harrigan invited the club to hold its meeting in her home in February.
After the reading of the Club Collect the meeting was adjourned.
