Pictures From The Past
This isn't ancient history, but it is a scene long gone. Remember the big sidewalk sales in Grove Hill, like this one at Duke's Department Store? In fact, do you remember when independent clothing stores were numerous in Grove Hill and the county? You had Duke's, Odoms, Town and Country Men's Shop and the Red Shed, among others in Grove Hill. Down in Jackson you'd find O'Gwynn's, Faulkners, Jaymac's, Bedsole-Fendley Department Store, Hardy's and more. Thomasville boasted Burge's, Bedsole's Department Store and others. This time of the year they all had January clearance sales. There are only a handful of independent ladies' clothing shops today but no men's stores. Chain stores in the county offering clothing include Wal-Mart in Jackson and Thomasville, Peebles in Jackson and Goody's in Thomasville.

We had several calls last week to identify the Coffeeville High students in front of the Coca-Cola box. They were Ray Morgan and Sharon Thornton.
