Panthers prepare for area playoffs

The Coffeeville Panthers lost an important coin-toss Monday and now the Class 1A Area 1 tournament will be held in McIntosh.

Because of that the Panthers will play Sweet Water in the first round of the tourney.

Coffeeville clinched the tie for first place by beating Fruitdale 83-50 recently.

In the game Trenton Cade led CHS with 21 points. Franklin Grayson added 16 points. Jeremy Pugh had 10.

Last Tuesday Coffeeville beat John Essex 69-56.

Roy Brooks had 18 points to pace the team. Grayson had 14 points. Joe Martin added 11 points.

The Panthers see the serious need in winning their area tournament because the loser will have the task of traveling to Beatrice and having to play topranked J.F. Shields for the right to advance to the regional tournament in Troy at the Troy University later in the month.

"We really need to win the area," Coach Gerald Howze said. "No one wants to have to go to Shields in sub-state to play. No one at all."
