CCHS teams win thrillers at JHS

A standing room only crowd saw the Clarke County High School Bulldogs avenge their loss in the county tournament by beating the Aggies of Jackson High School 53-48 in overtime last Saturday.

The game was tied at 45-45 at the end of regulation.

Justin Burroughs led CCHS with 22 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Ben Burroughs and Deforest Taite each had 10 points. Ronnie Osborne had seven rebounds. Ken Kimbrough added five boards.

Last Friday the Bulldogs completed the season sweep over Thomasville with a 60-58 win.

Justin Burroughs hit the game winning shot in the closing seconds to clinch the win over their county-rival.

Burroughs had 16 points and six rebounds to pace the Bulldogs. Kimbrough had 11 points and six rebounds. Taite had 14 points. B. Burroughs added eight points. Osborne had six rebounds.

The Bulldogs travel to Mobile Saturday night to play Washington County in the 3A Area 1 tournament. The winner of that game returns to Mobile Monday night to play Mobile Christian in the championship game at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs rebounded last Saturday to beat Jackson High School 50-45, avenging their loss in the county tournament.

Erica Moore had 26 points and seven rebounds. NaKeshia Coats had five points and four rebounds. Ebony Hughes added five points and two rebounds. Stephanie Robinson had six points and six rebounds. Minetre Martin had four points.

On Friday night the Lady Bulldogs lost 67-32 to Thomasville.

Hughes led CCHS with eight points and four rebounds. Coats added seven points and four rebounds. Robinson had seven points. Kiara Gildersleeve had four points and two rebounds. Moore had three points.

Thursday (today) the Lady Bulldogs will host the Class 3A Area 1 tournament.

Washington County will play Mobile Christian at 6:30. The winner of that game plays CCHS on Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

The winner of the area tournaments will be hosting in the substate round of the playoffs while the loser will have to travel. The next round following that will be the regional tournament held at Troy University in Troy.
