Ebenezer Black

History

The Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church of Coffeeville will have its annual Black History Program

Sunday, Feb. 18 at noon. A short skit on Rosa Parks will be performed. Deacon Eugene Coats is the church clerk. Rev. Albert Ridgeway is the pastor.

Sunflower AOH Church located on McFadden Street in Thomasville will have a Black History Program

Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2:30 p.m. The theme will be "...they made me the keeper of the vineyards..." Song of Solomon 1:6. The guest speaker will be Bishop Herbert Nobles of the House of Prayer of Gosport. Elder S.L. Calhoun is the pastor.

DHR meeting set

The Clarke County Department of Human Resources quarterly board meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the board room. The DHR is located at 22609 Highway 84 in Grove Hill. Lou I. Boykin is the director.

Black History Tea

The Clarke County Voters League's annual Black History Tea will be Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Intermediate School's Cafeteria located at 2950 Highway 43 in Jackson. The speaker will be B.J. McCullough of Montgomery. J.W. Andrews is the president and Janet James is the program chairperson.

Historical Society

meets

Leah Rawls Atkins will be the speaker at the February meeting of the Clarke County Historical Society. The meeting will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the fellowship hall of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church. Dr. Atkins is the author of several books and retired as director of the Auburn University Center for Arts and Humanities. Her new book, "Developed for the Service of Alabama," The Centennial History of the Alabama Power Company is the story of the electrification of Alabama. The lecture is funded by the Alabama Power Company and administered by the Center for Arts and Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University. The public is invited to attend.

Good Hope Black

History Program

Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church family will be having its Black History Program Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. Rev. T.L. Douglas, pastor of the Mackey Branch No. 1 Baptist Church of Gosport and the Grove Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Uriah along with his congregations will be the guests. Rev. Derrick Powell is the pastor.

JHS Class of 1987

Jackson High School Class of 1987 is in the process of planning a 20th year class reunion. A meeting will be Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Visitation Catholic Church in Jackson.
